Michigan Litigation Law | When Employee Quits vs Resignation vs Termination

In Michigan's Complex Employment Law There Are Important Distinctions Between Quitting, Resigning, and Termination

How is Termination and Resignation Different from Quitting?

Unlike with termination and resignation, when an employee quits, the employee terminates the relationship typically without notice. In some instances, predetermined actions result in “effective” quits, such as the employee’s unauthorized absence for a specified period of time. See, e.g., Timken Co v United Steelworkers of America, 482 F2d 1012 (6th Cir 1973); Spraggins v Lakepointe Senior Care & Rehab Ctr, LLC, No 08-14074, 2010 US Dist LEXIS 105417 (ED Mich Oct 4, 2010) (unpublished).
